Adding up the miles for charity
|
A trainee accountant is scaling new heights to provide an unexpected bonus for a mobility charity. Caroline Finn, from Stivichall in Coventry, will climb the three tallest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales in just 24 hours, as she undertakes the Three Peaks Challenge, to raise money for Motability. Motability provides subsidised motorised wheelchairs, scooters and adapted cars for disabled people to increase their independence. |

The Motability Scheme enables disabled people to exchange part of their disability allowances to obtain a new specially adapted car, powered wheelchair or scooter.
The 23-year-old, who has worked at financial experts and chartered accountants Harrison Beale and Owen (HB&O), in Queens Road base for the past four years, will undertake the 26-miles challenge – the equivalent of running a marathon - with her sister Claire (30).
The challenge will see the duo climb 1,085 metres to the top of Snowdon in Wales, 978 metres to the peak of Scafell Pike in Cumbria and 1,344 metres to the summit of Ben Nevis, Scotland.
Caroline said: “Somebody mentioned the Three Peaks Challenge to me a few years ago, and after looking into it, I decided it was something that I would like to do.
It will be a bit of a challenge for me personally, which is why I want to do it, but I am looking forward to it.
I chose to raise money for Motability because I felt they didn’t get as much profile as some of the more famous charities and they do a very important job.”
Caroline began her training about two months ago, which has included trips to Shropshire to undertake running and hill walking.
She will take on the challenge on Friday, September 17 and hopes to raise around £500 for Motability.
Phil Ewing, director at HB&O which also has offices in Leamington, said: “What Caroline is doing is a great inspiration to us all and we are extremely proud of her efforts.
I know she has been working extremely hard to be ready for this challenge and I think the majority of the people at the company have donated because she is raising money for a very worthy cause.
Everyone at Harrison Beale and Owen is right behind Caroline and we wish her the best of luck in her challenge.”
